Echos Of Rumi | Paper Print

This painting is my tribute to the sacred dance of the Whirling Dervish, a tradition rooted in the teachings of Rumi. Their hypnotic spinning is not just movement, it is a prayer, a meditation, a surrender to divine love. With each turn, they dissolve the ego and become vessels of spiritual connection, reaching a state of ecstatic unity with the universe. I wanted to capture that transcendence, the poetry of motion that carries the soul beyond the physical realm.
I used a combination of impasto and expressive brushwork, layering acrylic with a palette knife to create texture and movement. The swirling strokes in the background mirror the energy of their whirling, drawing the viewer into the rhythm of the dance. The rich reds symbolize divine passion, while intricate details on the robes honour the sacred tradition. This piece is an invitation to feel the depth of prayer through movement—to lose oneself in the echoes of Rumi’s wisdom.
