Standing tall since 1348, The Galata Tower is one of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks. It has watched over centuries of empires, from Byzantium to the Ottomans. Over time, it became a symbol of love and fate which legend says that if two lovers ascend the tower together, they are destined to marry. Many have proposed at its peak, sealing their love amidst breathtaking city views.
This painting captures Galata’s timeless romance, blending architectural strength with delicate cherry blossoms, symbolizing love and fleeting moments. Using oil paints and a palette knife, I sculpted the textured bricks and intricate details, creating a sense of depth and realism. The dramatic sky, swirling with turquoise and crimson, reflects the magic that lingers over the tower. Each stroke embodies the passion of lovers who have stood beneath this historic structure, whispering their dreams into the Istanbul breeze.
