Stones Of Kerikeri | Canvas Print
This painting is a tribute to one of my happiest travel memories in the beautiful town of Kerikeri, New Zealand. Known for its lush landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant art scene, Kerikeri holds a special place in my heart as a place of serenity and inspiration.
Historically, Kerikeri is one of New Zealand's oldest European settlements, home to the Kerikeri Mission Station, which includes the famous Stone Store and Kemp House. The country’s oldest surviving European buildings. These colonial structures blend with the town’s deep Māori heritage, creating a unique cultural atmosphere that I sought to capture in my painting.
In this piece, I focused on the interplay between nature and history. The textured brushstrokes highlight the rugged beauty of the rocky riverbank, while the impasto technique brings depth and movement to the flowing water. The warm earth tones of the old buildings contrast with the vibrant greens of the surrounding foliage, creating a nostalgic yet lively scene. The red flowers in the foreground symbolize the joy and vibrancy I felt during my time in Kerikeri.
