Taksim Square, the heart of Istanbul, is a place where history and modern life intertwine. Its famous red tram, a nostalgic symbol of the city, glides through Istiklal Avenue, surrounded by the rhythm of daily life. Taksim has witnessed revolutions, love stories, and the footprints of millions over the years. Even on a rainy night, its charm lingers, reflecting the city’s soul on its wet cobblestones.
In this painting, I wanted to capture the melancholy and romance of Taksim at night—the city's ever-moving spirit contrasted with a moment of stillness. Using a monochrome palette, I built depth and atmosphere, allowing the bold red hues to draw the eye, representing love, passion, and nostalgia. The oil paint was applied with a palette knife, creating a rich, textured surface, from the rain-slicked streets to the tram’s vintage details. This piece is a tribute to Istanbul’s timeless beauty and its ever-evolving stories.
